Corporate Self Defence Courses
There is a growing trend in companies providing their employees with personal safety training in the workplace as part of their corporate well-being initiatives for their staff. What a fantastic way for a company to show that it appreciates its staff and cares for their welfare. The course also provides a great opportunity for team building and boosting company morale as well as protection.
We are all too well aware of the increase in violent crime in the UK. Did you know?
· 1 out 5 women will be sexually assaulted in her lifetime
· The increase of drug rape/robbery is alarming in London this effects both men & women
· Statistically 4 out of 5 women who fight back get out of a situation!
· Men feel equally insecure about their safety as it is a myth men know how to fight back
· Do your staff know how to fight back to prevent a serious assault, a rape or possibly save their own life if attacked?
· Are they confident in their capabilities?
People around the world are often heard to say: “I wouldn’t know what to do, I am not a fighter. If someone attacked me I will give in and pray I come out with as little harm as possible to myself and hopefully I am still alive.” The reality is that most people have this view not because they cannot defend themselves but because they do not know how to defend themselves or they have poor safety awareness habits.
Research shows that 75% of people who fight back get out of a situation! The courses we offer are therefore very realistic. Consequently, our courses are unlike many other self-defence courses offered as we focus on the practical empowerment of providing participants with general personal safety awareness as well as the tools to deal with a violent or an abusive situation. Individuals leave our courses feeling they have grown in confidence and their capability to protect themselves.
We have set out, below, an easy to use Frequently Asked Question list which we hope will answer all your questions such as: What does a course cost? What does the course cover? How much space do we need? Etc. If you have any other questions that are not answered below, please feel free to e-mail us on selfdefencepro@yahoo.co.uk.or telephone us on 07853 185 140 (JAY)
Q: What is covered in the course?
A: Our self-defence courses are designed for the everyday person. All our courses cover personal safety awareness in your daily life as well as focusing on easy to remember and effective physical self-defence techniques.
The 2 to 3 - hour workshop focuses 80% of the time on practical and highly effective self-defence technique training. This includes participant application and practise. The Level One course covers the following:
· Personal safety talk & safety in your daily life
· Drug Rape Awareness
· Identification of risk situations and avoidance
· Teaching participants practical & highly effective self-defence skills
· Identifying target areas on an attacker’s body
· Victim Mentality
· Educate participants that they have choices when they are faced with an attack situation
· Breakdown misconceptions of rape/violence
· Build confidence in your own capabilities
Q: Do you train men and women?
A: Yes, we teach both women and men. However, we teach these groups separately for a couple of reasons. Firstly the patterns of attack tend to be different for males and females: Generally when a male is attacked the attack is usually from the front and invariably does not have a sexual motive compared to an attack on a female by a man which is often from behind and often has a sexual motive. Thus the types of defence techniques taught vary in order to deal with the different attack patterns. Secondly, women tend to feel more comfortable in a group with just women when subjects such as rape and sexual abuse are discussed.
However, if a group of men has a small group of women who wish to join the course and vice versa we can can discuss tailoring the course. Ideally though the groups should be taught separately.
Q: Is this a martial arts course?
A: No, our Self-Defence course is designed specifically with the everyday person in mind. We base our course content on real life safety awareness concerns and real life attack patterns that we have studied over many years. Martial Arts is a sport and a way of life and thus is not always practical when it comes to realistic, effective and easy to remember “street” self-defence techniques.
Q: Is the training held in house?
A: IMAF Self-Defence can come in and teach at your company. The workshops are usually run during office hours starting first thing in the morning and finishing by lunchtime or starting at lunchtime and ending at around 5:00 o’clock. In some instances we have started workshops in the afternoon and ended them in the early evening. Thus we are flexible so as to accommodate the most suitable time for your company.
Q: How much space is needed to train?
A: A space no bigger than an average sized meeting room. Some of our clients clear a small area in the office canteen. If your company does not have a small space like this then a local gym is often prepared to rent a small studio at reasonable prices. We will be happy to help you find such a venue close to your offices should this be necessary.
Q: Does the company need any equipment?
A: IMAF Self-Defence will provide all the necessary training equipment.
Q: Is there a min & max number for a course?
A: There is no minimum number but we have a maximum of 20 per session. Two instructors will be present at each course.
Q: How much do the workshops cost?
A: The cost is £40 per head for a 2 hour course. However, we have price brackets as follows:
· 1-10 employees £60 + VAT (17.5% £10.50 ) £70.50 per head
· 11-20 employees £55 + VAT ( 17.5% £9.63) £64.63 per head

Q: How many workshop levels are there?
A: There are three levels. Each level is 2 to 3 hours in duration depends on the numbers of clients being taught and in modular format. Each module is a separate and independent building block. Only one level needs to be booked at a time. Introduce Level One first, after which you can decide whether to introduce Level Two & Three.
All Levels focus on general safety awareness and the reinforcement of good personal safety habits. The participants are encouraged to share their views, experiences and concerns. Thus the workshops are very scenario based rather than in lecture format.
Level One is focussed on the introduction and application of practical self-defence techniques and tools which most participants will have had no previous knowledge of prior to taking the Level One course. Each tool is introduced with participants learning their application by working together with partners. After a set of tools is taught, the tools are then put together and applied in “real life” attack situations, as each participant must access the tools they have learnt in order to get out of a given situation.
Level Two reinforces the foundation tools & techniques learnt in Level One. Level Two then goes further with participants learning to apply the techniques with quicker response times and effectiveness. Ground techniques are also introduced in this level. Level Two also focuses on building further confidence in the participants in the use of all the techniques and their ability to deal with verbal and physical aggression.
Level Three will refresh and reinforce all the tools & techniques learnt so far in Levels One & Two as well as build further on the increased confidence gained in the previous Levels. However, the difference with Level Three is that participants are taken out into open environments as well as common places of attack such as lifts, alleyways, parks etc. where technique us and application is put to a more realistic test. We also introduce knife attack scenarios in Level Three.
Q: Do you have to be fit to do the course?
A: You do not have to be fit or sporty. Self-defence training is a life skill and not a fitness or martial arts class.
Q: Are the instructors insured?
A: All our instructors are insured and have been police checked. There will also be at least one instructor on the course that has a current First Aid certificate. Insurance details and police check information is available on request.
Q: Are you a member of an official body?
A: Yes, all our trainers are registered Self-Defence and kickboxing Instructors with The Self-Defence Federation and IMAF Europe, a leading governing body of Self-Defence Instructors in the UK. And have many years of experience in self defence.
